Giving Circle Launched!
GIVING CIRCLE LAUNCHED TO
RAISE $100,000 FOR SEX WORKERS RIGHTS
United States - Monday April 1, 2024 – New Moon Network has launched a giving circle aimed at raising $100,000 for the advancement of sex workers rights. The New Moon Giving Circle intends to distribute no less than ten $10,000 grants to sex worker-led organizations that promote community wellbeing through activities such as policy advocacy or direct services. Contributors to the fund have the option to nominate groups for grants and vote on final funding decisions.
“A giving circle is so much more than a simple fundraiser,” says Savannah Sly, Co-Director of New Moon, “Our giving circle invites donors to become partners in the movement by uplifting organizations they believe in, and meaningfully weighing in on how our pooled funds are spent”.
The giving circle is off to a strong start, with $8,300 raised. The minimum donation to become a member of the giving circle is $100, but New Moon is boldly asking for an average donation of $1,000. “We believe there are at least 100 people in the US willing to contribute $1,000 towards sex workers rights,” Sly states, “Given the onslaught of attacks against the adult industry and performers’ livelihoods, we know that fans, allies, and even other sex workers are looking for ways to help. The New Moon Giving Circle is a way to get involved and make a difference.”
Beyond raising funds and deciding collectively how the funds are spent, the New Moon Giving Circle will host private classes for members on philanthropy, movement analysis, and information on what grassroots sex worker organizations do with their funding. Says Sly of the fundraiser, “This giving circle is about gathering as a community, learning from each other, and moving the movement together.”
